Jeans shopping

Some shopping pictures to share today - together with related tales (of woe mainly!)

Sorry I haven't been posting much recently, life has been hectic. However a day shopping today has gone some way towards redressing the balance.

I decided I would like a new pair of jeans. Preferably a darkish 'dirty' denim pair, identical in shape and fit, to the black Topshop Jamie jeans I already own. Naturally, such a thing was not to be found in Topshop, so needs must... I diversified the search. My travels (which were time limited by school pick-up sadly, the only time I am time disciplined) took me to Gap and John Lewis.

An 'ok' pair in Gap - couldn't find any style name / design / anything to tell me what they were (as opposed to the piles of other styles available - helpful - not!)  But here is a picture. At the time I thought they were just 'ok' but not worth £44.99 or similar - especially when 99% of the other stock seemed to be priced at £39.99.

(Excuse the muffin on view! Must point out top was lifted to see how they fit... I didn't sport this look all day!)

I then tried on Levi demi curve in John Lewis which I thought looked OK at the time - but reviewing the photos below they look not so good I fear!
Colour is just too.... blue :-(

Look like the man in the post office queue the other day who was sporting his new jeans still with the '£5 value' sticker on upside down... (and no I didn't have the heart to tell him :-0 )

Next some '7 for all mankind' - mid rise straight leg I think - though I had almost had enough by then trying to keep track of everything.  They were nice (naturally, at £160) and I know they are great jeans as I have another pair in boot-cut...but I wasn't in the mood for spending that today - especially as I am such a short-arsed creature I would have to cut off about 15%!  They only seemed to have 34in length in stock. Liked the colour and the detailing though.

This sorry tale of how not to (plan and) shop ends with the purchase of a pair of Baxters in Topshop, mainly because I was darned if I was going to spend 2 hours trawling shops getting extremely hot and bothered dressing and undressing, and come home empty handed. I am uncertain whether they are keepers though - even though the detailing is nice, they don't fit as well as the Jamie on me, and I'm not sure about the colour which is quite a muted greyish denim..... what do you think?

Dodgy lighting alert....(apologies: was at home by this point)

PS - for anyone who is interested, wardrobe clear-out still in progress, am madly e-baying...hence sparseness of blogging... it's a pain but have raised a nice bit of cash :-)

  1. Oh crikey - jeans shopping is hell. Just like boyfriend jean shopping for many has proven to be a task and a half, buying a half decent pair of skinny jeans for me has proven to be just as arduous and soul destroying. I kind of gave up i.e I bought some H&M low skinny jeans which were not very skinny at all and decided I looked much better in these than the sucky in very tight skinnys. I'm done for now. Until April when I will probably have another attempt.

On your jeans front - I missed out on the perfect vintage dirty denim tint Jamie Jeans just before Christmas. I tried them on along with some black ones and decided to go for the black and would come back for the vintage wash when funds permitted. When funds permitted, they had gone. Drat. Sorry, I digressed but what I meant to say is that if you like the Jamies for the fit - stick with them and wait. They are forever bringing out different washes and no doubt, a pair will come your way soon(ish). From the pictures, I would say the 7 for All Mankind look no better than the Baxters but that's just going by the pictures. But to be honest, the Baxters look really nice on you and hug you where they should.

    I'll shut up now.

    1. Ahhh, sounds like it will be worth waiting for another 'wash' in the Jamies then... I wondered if that might be the case. Yes it was not as relaxing or enjoyable am excursion as I'd hoped / planned... what IS it with jeans?! Glad you think the Baxters look ok...so it wasn't an entirely wasted expedition!
PS....still no 'boyfriend jeans on my horizon ;-)

  2. Aaargh! This is my third attempt to comment. Your word verification thingy keeps eating my words!!! Anyhow, what I've been trying to say is firstly ... don't you love Sue's comments? I always love reading them! But now I'm digressing. I'd say no contest. Just scrolling through the pics alone and the Baxters win hands down. They look by far the best (and great) on you. Personally, I despise jeans shopping. I generally come home hot, bothered & in a very bad mood. You did very well! Helen

  3. The last pair (the ones at home) look the best. Have you worked out how to get your funds back from paypal? I always just end up funding my ebay habit via anything that I sell, as I don't really know how to get the money from Paypal into a bank account.

    1. Aha - setting up/ linking a bank account via Paypal is a tad tricky, not a qyuick process. But yes I did it and it was worth the hassle to see the funds coming in!
(Returned the jeans in the end.)

  7. Oh so glad to hear I'm not in a club of 1 who hates jean shopping! Last time I tried to find a pair I started in Next, moved to Topshop, Mary Portas at House of Fraser then on to a range of HoF jeans starting prices of £90 going up to just over £225. No luck with any. I'm a size 12 (10 if I'm lucky) but jeans just don't seem to be made for my shape (crikey that makes me sound odd....). Anyway will keep watching this blog for future inspiration. Good luck to all other jean shoppers looking for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
