Stayin' alive

Oh dear - what a failure January has been on the blogging front.

A combination of factors (will not bore you all) has meant that I seem to have lost my style mojo, my shopping mojo, my photographyt mojo (such as it ever was!!) and everything else...

One bargain to report - and it was a stonking one - a White Company duvet cover with £100 off (that's what I call a bargain! No picture sadly due to general ineptitude..) but very little else has been going on.

Just to prove I still exist - not recent, but in RI wedges and White Company cords.

Never mind, January (horrid depressing month at the best of times I find) is almost over.

Here's to a stylish February :-)

The enduring appeal of internet shopping deliveries

I am quite an impatient creature. The only snag with internet shopping is the delay between decision / click / delivery and the all important trying on / 'keepage' stage. I exist in a semi-suspended state until the goods are here and I know whether they will be suitable or not.

This is almost compensated for, however, by the excitement of parcels arriving and being unwrapped. Who needs Christmas when you have a sale and a laptop?  Goodies can arrive all year long :-)

Today was one such day with a couple of arrivals.

One was from net-a-porter - my Elle Macpherson undies. They are keepers I'm happy to report, and this is rare in the case of online bra orders I find - especially a brand you are unfamiliar with. Elle Macpherson seems to be true to size, should anyone else be wondering.

The other arrival was some wedge boots from River Island, of all places.

I can't quite remember why I went to the RI website, ( it may have been to see if the Molly coated jeggings had been reduced - they were not as far as I recall...) but it certainly wasn't to look for boots. I can't ever remember seeing, or certainly ever inspecting closely, a shoe section there. These boots caught my eye though - reduced form £45 to £15. It would have been rude not to take a punt.

NB they are described as 'silver' on the RI website, but are certainly not silver - more of a pewter / bronze shade I'd say. I am happy about this though, as I was doubtful about silver - worried about looking like some kind of bizarre Barbarella wannabe. I've had a look on the website for a link, but they seem to have disappeared so maybe have sold out. (If anyone is interested let me know and i'll supply the product code, there may be some available in stores.)

What do you think readers...? 2nd opinions needed
The other part of my net-a-porter order was some Falke leg warmers. I'd fancied a pair for a while to - er.. well - warm my legs really, when wearing skirts especially.

I wore them with an old pair of Topshop short biker boots from a couple of years ago which are still going strong. I like how the leg warmers bridge the gap between boots which can sometimes feel a difficult length - neither short nor long (on me at any rate).  Hopefully a wise buy and will enable me to wear the boots more!

Finally, one more acquisition which (on reflection) could maybe have been left in favour of daywear, but hey-ho. It's (a) pretty and (b) warm - White Company long sleeved empire lace detail nightdress. 30% off.

Why I have a blog. It reminds me of clothes I'd forgotten about.

How sad is this?

Thanks to one of the 'widgets' in my blog I just spotted a denim shirt I had temporarily forgotten about (well two denim shirts actually).

Is it just me that suffers from this madness..  Am I that abnormally absent minded?  (I know I am a bit... but hopefully others have similarly vacant moments!)

And a pair of shoes I had almost forgotten about.

They were the Zara shoes seen here - but in truth I did remember about them on New Year's eve and tried them on with my red Zara dress - seen on this post - thinking it would have been a nice outfit if (a) I'd self tanned my legs; (b) had anywhere to go; and (c) was more self confident wearing just a dress without some form of outer covering.

I find I feel almost naked in short sleeves (especially at this time of year).

Green; eyeliner; bedding. In no particular order...

Today I wore a new green Jigsaw sale top, reduced to £22, very fine weight basic crew neck top, I find them useful for layering and this one looked very nice with my new scarf which my Dad got me for Christmas. (He went all the way to the Mulberry outlet - bless! - which is unfamiliar territory for him, to say the least.)

So that's the green then.

The eyeliner is another find of the splurge or save variety - save being the optimum word here.  I have, since time immemorial, used Lancome Artliner as an eyeliner. Nothing else came close. I can't abide those fiddly liquid ones, and the gel versions where you need both pot and brush have been tried and found wanting.

The Lancome was a nice felt tipped pen version which bridged the gap between crayon and liquid very well.  I was wandering along the aisles in Superdrug in a desultory way the other day - and out of bordeom really - I didn't actively need a new eyeliner, started eyeing them (sorry no pun intended!)

The L'Oreal superliner in black vinyl is £6.49 - at least half the price of the Lancome liner - and I am hooked. It is making my tired, hungover face look a whole lot better, and I hope this is not just a trick of the light or wishful thinking!  I really like it. Get thee to Superdrug or Boots.

Finally, the bedding.

Now this is a lesson (of the Ash variety, so be patient) in how to save yourself £49!

Da da da da -DAH -

I was in Debenhams today looking for some new square pillowcases (65 x 65cm, increasingly hard to come by, I find) and found some nice beige John Rocha ones on the 50% off shelf - £17 - for a PAIR! So far so good. They were always coming home with me.

I happened to see that there were duvet covers and normal rectangular pillowcases on the same shelf, same reduction. Quickly scooped up one of each (£34 and £15 respectively). While queuing at the till - combination of annoyingly slow and inept assistant and doddery old lady (me in about 20 years, probably) trying to use a voucher - I realised that I did not in fact need a new duvet cover or more rectangular pillowcases, and in between warning small child off high bar stools which were incongruously on sale in the bedding area, had a change of mind and - risking my place in the painfully slow till queue - returned said items to shelf. (Luckily there was no-one behind me or they would have been irresponsibly abandoned on a bar stool. The bedding items, that is, though I don't know - dumping fellow customers also has its appeal..!)

The net result is - in my book - that I have saved £49 rather than spending £17.  The £17 was covered by the hopeless Topshop shoes which had been returned 20 mins earlier anyway.

I have worked out how to email myself pictures again. I still don't understand why my iphone is declaring my password invalid when I have changed it to the correct one umpteen times. I lost patience and added another account - which miraculously worked. So here I am in my new green Jigsaw top, M&S woman cord skirt and new Mulberry scarf from Dad. Tights are M&S Autograph velvet opaques, shoes my good old Russell and Bromley 'Chester' loafers.
